Welcome to the 25th Play it Again, Toads! Mary’s Mixed Bag: Poetry of the Ordinary
Peeling potatoes for potato salad,
putting eggs on to boil.
(I think of dye and baskets,
jelly beans and, but, no that
belongs to the past.)
Tomorrow is Easter. I’ll fix a ham
(and remember Jesus was Jewish)
and potato salad, green beans and rolls.
I can’t help thinking we sure
pick strange ways to honor our Lord.

Filled with irony. Yes, ham at Easter always struck me sideways, too! And those everyday tasks… that must be done, even on a holiday. That image made me giggle, too. Thanks, Debi. Remember that I have a Jewish daughter – I will send her your link. She will like this. Amy

Sometimes the magical overwhelms the ordinary, and sometimes the ordinary lifts a leaf on the magical on its passing — all the simple concrete details here make the Easter mystery all the stranger.

Church is a little strange anymore also. People wear shorts and T’s, read scripture from their iPad, and stage is full of guitars and violas/fiddles. Organ is only on the keyboard if selected. Been missing you for a bit, Debi, hope you’re okay.

Doing good. Life just gets busy. Seems like it is always feast or famine but I guess it evens out in the end. Thanks for asking, Jim, and for noticing : )

I used a vintage postcard for my poem too. I did a Google search and looked at a lot of them. Made me miss the old Easters. You made me hungry.

Yes. But traditions are nice either way. I also like the reference to the traditions you no longer practice … I will miss the days when my children no longer have baskets and color eggs…
