adashofsunny Prompt Nights – In dreams we enter a world that’s entirely our own
prompt by Sanaa Rizvi

What is a dream but the echo
of a longing, the whisper of fears,
a rendezvous with pleasant memories,
or hurts and heartbreak rent to tears?
We can’t always bear it so we soften
the edges with cyphers, symbols, signs
that oft leave us groping for meaning behind
the shadowy images in our mind.
We wake from one dream and enter another
and who can say which is reality
and which is fantasy?

Beautiful. 🙂 Just earlier today, one of my colleagues made this point… of dreams being an echo of our fears and memories, pleasant or otherwise.

  2. Oh, Debi, how I adore this! A bit of Jung a bit of Freud and everything of life and dreaming. Love the question, the commentary on symbols and meaning, and the truth crafted into the last three lines.

Oohh I love the reference to sigmund freud in this poem and oh the lines “so we soften the edges with cyphers, symbols, signs that oft leave us groping for meaning behind the shadowy images in our mind.” left me breathless. Beautifully executed. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support 😀

    Lots of love,
