A delegation from China
came to visit Miz Eliza
on a cloudless Wednesday Morning.
(They came without any warning.)
Miz Eliza, being quite flustered
nevertheless quickly uttered
a most civil greeting right back
and offered them tea and a snack.
I hope your journey was pleasant
and they talked of the inclement
weather they’d had in the city
and other remarks quite pithy
and oh, wasn’t it a pity
that Jane had missed the committee
while busily sleeping that day.
As the men were stealing away
she awoke…
I had a most wonderful dream
we had crumpets and tea with cream,
said Jane. And wee men from China
came especially to find a
person of scholarly merit.
Oh, how can ever I bear it?
I know…
Eliza, dear friend, let’s pretend
we’re having a tea with wee men.
