imaginarygarden Prompt for Today: In the Footsteps of the Suffragettes
Imagined By Sherry Blue Sky
“Our challenge: write about women’s freedom in any way that is relevant to you.“
This is an older one but fits so well, I hope you don’t mind my recycling it, Sherry.
Rapunzel sat in the tower day after day
waiting for Prince Charming to come her way
to save her from loneliness, boredom and tears
for dying alone was her greatest fear.
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair,
so that I may climb the golden stair,”
the wicked old woman said each bright noon
and Rapunzel threw her braid with sullen gloom.
Then one day after the witch had left
and she’d pulled back her braid with a heft
she decided t’was stupid to leave life to fate
and for a man to make her happy she’d not wait.
Rapunzel cut her braid up close to her ears
secured it and climbed down with a cheer,
never looked back, headed for the city
joined a political action committee
changed her name to Erica Knight
and lobbied unceasingly for women’s rights!
Ooh delightful touch to the old tale 😀 I love your perspective.
