Love Stages

Read My Mindmindlovemisery Music Prompt #29 “Read My Mind” by The Killers
“Use the song Read My Mindas inspiration for any form of creative expression”

It flames into a bonfire when it’s young
heat so intense you step back from it
at risk of being singed. Yet you can’t
stay on the fringe it draws you in
feeds on itself surging even higher.
If it stayed like this there’d be nothing
left but two shadows baked on the wall
And that is love.

And if you persevere to keep the fire going
you may find it settles to a steady flame
edges disheveled as you rake them in
to the middle and it flares here and there
with sparks that tumble upwards
on waves of heat released unleased
from the heart of the fire desire.
And that is love.

Till finally, the fire smolders, gives off
an even heat, comfy, snuggly, sweet
wrap your arms around me replete
in the coal’s steady glow. Now and then,
a kernel pops, a flame erupts and sizzles,
frizzles, sated with a sigh of bliss.
Holding hands, soft nuzzle and kiss.
And that is love.
