Spring Cleaning

Susan Schoeffield‘s  The Poetry Park #12 Embracing Spring With Open Arms

For today’s Opening Gambit prompt, we’re using as our inspiration the first four lines from a piece by Spanish poet, Antonio Machado (the entire poem can be found at this link):

“The afternoon is bright,
with spring in the air,
a mild March afternoon,
with the breath of April stirring”

I love the flowers, the colors, the light of spring
but they aren’t what gets my heart strings a’quiver
it is the thought of throwing open the windows,
the doors, and a breeze that blows freshness and
health throughout the whole house, the pleasure of
swiping down cobwebs, sweeping fine ash that
seeps in cracks, cleaning the grime from kitchen walls,
and other tasks of de-winterizing a stuffy house.
Ah, Spring, your name is wholesome, rolls off my tongue
in anticipation of the ritual vernal refreshing.
